Starsky Starcevich

After suffering a severe knee injury at work and then an even worse back injury at home, Starsky decided the generic "grandpa" cane he was forced to use just wasn't cutting it so he made his own customized cane and after seeing how people were more intrigued by his cane than his diasability, he started making and donating customized canes for his disabled friends.
While Starsky was making a cane one day, Maverick, his 6 year-old son, asked him why he didn't make canes for kids, too... after all, there were kids in the world who hurt just like adults.  From that simple question came a little organization with a big heart, Canes For Kids, where Starsky not only makes custom canes for disabled kids -- often-times letting kids themselves help out with the design -- but also talks to kids of all ages and walks of life about the importance of tolerance, understanding, and kindness. The purpose of Canes For Kids is twofold -- to not only help disabled kids get their minds off their problems with special canes customized to their unique personalities, but also to help other kids understand that being disabled isn't something to screw with another person about. Canes For Kids is not-for-profit -- ALL canes Starsky makes for kids are free.
With a cane, you can become someone like Alice Cooper, Lord Blood-Rah, or even a Jedi Knight, and when you're disabled, the world sees your cane, not your disability.  Even when you're not disabled, you're gonna get stopped by people wanting to know where you got that killer cane from. A good cane enriches your life and gives you a different perspective on the world – maybe even makes the world a better place for you – and if that ain't art... what the hell is?
