Destitute

Foxcore/Punk from Portland, Oregon.

DESTITUTE are:

violet - Bass/Vocals
ali - Guitar/Vocals
jazz - Drums

Destitute was formed when sisters Ali & Violet met Daniel in 2006. Although they all had different musical tastes, they all shared a love of one thing, making music. Their heartfelt lyrics and screams are backed by raw punk riffs, fast drums, and haunting melodies. Both girls take turns confessing tales about lost loves, drugs, betrayal, social issues and the need for gender equality. After a year off for personal reasons, Ali & Violet are back with their debut CD-EP entitled "Left for Dead"!

PUNK ROCK, HARDCORE, AND SKA MUSIC RESOURCE N REVIEW (US):

Left For Dead - "destitute has a very raw sound and have a striking resemblence in vocals and music on most songs to bikini kill and team dresch. this album "left for dead" is a result of basement recordings from a few years back. so far this isn't my favorite listen from unrepentant records probally because i'm not a huge fan of bands like bikini kill or team dresch which sound more so poppyish and grungy than punk as they claim to be in at least sound, but on some songs here i like the sound cause i do like some grunge music although more tilting my head towards punk of course, also i prefer male to female singers. this band definatley sounds more like a kill rock stars release than a unrepentant records release. the vocals can be sexy sometimes and they remind me of eve libertine of crass fame and the songs of course sound sped up just like the punk you wanna hear coming out of your speakers and from the unrepentant label. but most of the songs with music and vocals remind me of kathleen hannah and bikini kill. that's not a bad thing cause riot girls rule but just really not for me personally! this release for me fell in the middle to about a 5 or 6. although some songs are sparkling dynamite. best songs"junkies for jesus", "absence" and "down" worst songs-"dead to me" for fans of bikini kill, team dresch and crass. pick this release up and others on unrepentant records" --Beth

PUNK GLOBE (US):

Left For Dead - "Destitute are described as "Foxcore" from Portland, Oregon ... This trio of girls are really the offspring of The Portland's own Frances Farmer Gals. Who were some of the original Riot Grrls from Portland in the early 90's...... The Frances Farmer Gals featured Mistress Dawn and the late Jerri Anne Pierce... I wonder if Destitute have played a show with Portland staple Roger Nusic yet? This CD features 6 interesting songs that tell tales of love, drugs, betrayal, social issues and the immense need for gender equality... Violet Riot the lead singer has a voice alot like Deanna's from the 80's San Francisco punk band Fright Wig... Check them out" --Ginger Coyote

GUTTER GLITTER (UK):

"In a similar vein to earlier Riot grrrl bands like Heavens to betsy, Huggy bear & Bikini kill, Destitute are for a change an actual riot grrrl band (none of this sounding exactly like The donnas stuff!). New demos "Anti" & "Scarification" are rough demos at the moment but you still get the feel of the songs directions. "Anti" is the stronger of the two tracks imagine a crossover between Bikini kill & the early drumming of Jack off jill & your probably close."

KINDERDOLLIES (US):

"Reining from Portland, Oregon Destitute is a riot grrrl/bitchcore masterpiece. With Violet [bass/vocals], Ali [vocals/guitar] and Daniel [drums]. This trio seems to have a bit of something for everyone. From the rough tell no lies, Anti, to the more mellow Junkies For Jesus, this band never fails to please. They've been on covers and inside of indie zines over the world [as far as argentina!] and their success is no surprise. A secret this good couldn't stay hidden forever."
